The diversity and quality of natural and anthropological values make Montenegro one of the most attractive regions in the Mediterranean. There are three recognizable natural areas: the coast, karst fields and the region of high mountains.
The Coastal region
The 293 km long coast cherishes the spirit of Mediterranean with its stone walkways, six cities of ancient civilizations, carnival parades throughout the whole year. The tourist capital of Montenegro is Budva – a city with 30 beautiful beaches, a rich cultural heritage and an Old Town from the 5th century BC. In the urban part of Budva there are a lot of luxury buildings and hotels, while small villages in nearby Grbalj and Paštrovići regions offer peace, beautiful nature and local food. The Bay of Kotor is one of the most beautiful bays in the world, and due to its convenient location and the high mountains that protect it, it is a natural marina for yachts and sailing boats. The first European hotel of the prestigious One&Only group was opened in Boka Bay. Another jewel of the Montenegrin coast is the Ulcinj beach – the longest beach in Montenegro, whose sand has curative effects. In summer time the coast is the center of entertainment and cultural events and international musical and film festivals.
The Central region
The key attractions of the central region are the national parks Lovćen and Lake Skadar. Cetinje is the cultural capital of Montenegro, that attracts tourists with its cultural contents, authentic architecture and way of life. Near Cetinje is the Lipska Cave – special attraction for tourists and local residents.
Northern region
Tourism is rapidly developing in the northern region, especially in Kolašin that aspires to become one of the best ski centers in the region. Durmitor mountain and the town of Žabljak are the epitome of untouched wild nature and attract tourists from all over the world in the winter and summer seasons. For adventurers and explorers there is also the Prokletije mountain range, which they call the Montenegrin Himalayas, and the deepest canyon in Europe – the canyon of the Tara River.
